Volunteers are the heart of hospice, and volunteering with Aegis Hospice could be the most meaningful thing you ever do. You do not need special talent or expertise to make a difference in the lives of hospice patients, only a kind servant’s heart.
Enriching every life we encounter is one of the cornerstones of our mission – a mission that could not be accomplished without the dedicated and heartfelt work of our volunteers. Whether you can give four hours a month, or four hours a day, we can use your help!
All our volunteers receive extensive training in providing comfort and support to families facing end-of-life issues. Topics covered during volunteer training include the basics of hospice care, active listening, identifying and respecting cultural differences, spirituality, grief, and the healing process.
Volunteers are an invaluable part of our interdisciplinary team; they demonstrate a deep commitment to the hospice philosophy.
Ways to Serve
Offering companionship by sitting, playing games, walking, or reading with a patient
Joining our No One Dies Alone team to support patients during their last hours
Administrative tasks such as greeting our guests or office help
Assisting families with household tasks (such as watering flowers or housekeeping)
Veteran-to-Veteran Volunteers
Bringing music into someone’s home or providing pet visits
Providing relief for caregivers
Capturing life memories and legacy creation through scrapbooking, audio recording, or journaling
There are a variety of opportunities to volunteer with Aegis and our patients, from supportive visits, transportation, care calls, and bereavement support, there is always a need for volunteers.
Volunteers can provide as little or as much time as they have available.
